Onboarding Online Faculty: Effective Strategies for Today’s Health Management Teaching and Learning

Session Description
As distance education becomes a standard option within health management education, onboarding new online faculty presents a set of unique challenges that differ from teaching in a traditional classroom format. Lessons learned from an established graduate program with 20 years of online experience are shared via an interactive format. A series of onboarding scenarios will be posed to the audience for comment. After discussion, each scenario will be followed by examples of onboarding best practices and effective techniques and strategies. Online issues covered include: (a) Selecting the right faculty for online, (b) orientation strategies for course design, development and technology, (c) Mentoring new faculty during their first online course experience and (d) Integrating course assessments results into actionable faculty development plans.
