The interactive presentation will be divided into three parts. The first part of the presentation will describe the CoI framework (Garrison and Arbaugh, 2007). In the second part, the presentation will introduce the audience to the flipgrid tool and illustrate its usefulness for building CoI. Concrete teaching examples will be used to demonstrate how flipgrid can strengthen each element of the CoI, namely – instructor presence, cognitive presence, and socio-affective presence. We will use student work as a basis for discussing effective task-design and how to avoid pitfalls. For the third and final part, we will engage the audience by getting them to use flipgrid and participate in a video-based discussion.
Useful take-aways for the audience:
This presentation will share teaching strategies for using the interactive video response system and discuss implications for online teaching and learning.
Also, it will evaluate the suitability of flipgrid for asynchronous discussions in terms of cost, ease of use, and accessibility.
The audience will get to explore the tool at the user-end and learn how to implement it in ways that are relevant to their teaching practices.
