Introduction and Development of Augmented Reality

Session Description
This presentation describes my asynchronous online course designed for undergraduate students at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. This course is an introduction to the fundamentals of Augmented Reality in the global online education institution. Augmented Reality is a technology that superimposes a user’s real world view with a computer generated virtual text or image on the user’s viewing screen, monitor, helmet face mask, glasses, goggles, a head-mounted display, a window, or like an automobile windshield. The course is to learn how to create an Augmented Reality Experience for Learners. The students will learn the basics about augmented reality and how to build an augmented reality using one of the AR apps or QR Code to access additional educational content that can be consulted by a trigger image. However, they will learn how to developed an augmented reality application.

This presentation describes the steps involved in planning and creating this mini asynchronous online course hosted on Canvas learning management system.

It incorporates video tutorials, step-by-step written instructions, guidelines, articles, and evaluate students based on their work. In addition, this presentation includes details of the trials and tribulations of the development process.

Greetings Raisa, I was reflecting on the question that Dave asked you during the session (regarding why you selected Canvas to create your course). I believe that is a wonderful factor to reflect on. I’m not sure if it will benefit the course creation process, however, it would be worth investigating if a particular Learning Management System (LMS) is more efficient in your course creation than another (meaning that creating Augmented Reality in the course, if that will be an option, or providing supplemental resources that may be more compatible in a particular LMS) is worth researching. There are three LMS that you can research (I’m bias when it comes to Canvas), they are as follows: http://www.brightspace.com/ (Desire2Learn), Canvas, and https://www.schoology.com/higher-ed
I wish you the best in your future endeavors!
    Felicia
